Mendenhall Presbyterian and Bethany Lutheran Church donated $10K to help
Good Samaritan Home in East Grand Forks replace their accessible van.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — A big boost is coming to help seniors in East Grand Forks get around. Mendenhall Presbyterian and Bethany Lutheran Church presented a check for more than $10,000 to the Good Samaritan Home in East Grand Forks. The money will be used to buy a new accessible van. The wheelchair ramp and door went out this summer, and the van is too old to put in a new one. Since the van broke, residents have had to pay a tax service for trips around town. "I get kind of depressed about it sometimes because I want to go where everybody else goes," Linda Bakken, a Good Samaritan Home resident, says. The van is used to transport residents at the home around the Grand Cities at their request, to go to appointments or the senior center. "Both churches have people who live here, we aren't the youngest in the world and we are going to end up here ourselves pretty soon. It's a big asset to the community and we wanted to do anything we could to help it to stay viable," Don Casmey, with Mendenhall Presbyterian, says. With the check and money from the Good Samaritan Foundation, they now have $30,000 toward their $50,000 goal. The hope is to raise another $20,000 by the end of the year. Donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Foundation.
